Natural Resources

Some of Michigan's greatest assets are our natural resources. People from all over the country come to play in our pristine waters and witness our breathtaking scenery. The tourism industry directly employs nearly 200,000 people statewide and provides a much needed boost to our local economy.

Preserving our natural wonders for generations to come must remain a priority for our state. I supported Michigan’s participation in the Great Lakes Compact- a big step toward protecting Michigan's precious natural resources and stopping the spread of Asian carp and other invasive species into our waters.

I also believe we must continue to market all that our state has to offer by maintaining the Pure Michigan campaign. It is estimated that every dollar spent on tourism advertising yields $4.90 in state tax revenue.
